Meat is a key source of protein, B-vitamins, iron and zinc. Purchase the leaner cuts more often, trim off visible fat, and bake, barbecue, broil or microwave. Meat alternatives such as eggs and beans, peas and lentils are an economical source of protein.

A bit about our Residence 5-week menu cycle

The residence menu at the University is planned with students' preferences and suggestions in mind. Based on a five-week menu cycle, it includes a diverse range of healthy choices, traditional entrees, ethnic selections and vegetarian and vegan options.

What can you expect when you come for a meal in the dining room? You'll find delectable items such as pesto turkey flatbread, orange ginger chicken, falafel couscous saute, teriyaki pork saute as well as many other artisan creations.

New to this year's menu, we've included:

  • Organic Options such as: Omelettes, an organic interactive salad bar, organic soy milk, chicken, tea and more.
  • Omega-3 Eggs: All items prepared on site will be made with omega-3 eggs. A good source of omega-3 fatty acids, these essential fats are required for normal growth and development, good vision and can essentially reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Zero Trans Fat Frying Oil: A uniquely canola & corn oil consisting of 64% by weight of non-hydrogenated monounsaturated fats.
  • Vegan as well as meatless options: Thirty percent of the items on the menu are either vegan or meatless. Geared to appeal to the vegetarian and omnivore student, these surprisingly healthy items are sure to please even the most discriminate of pallet.
  • Gluten Free: Flagged on the daily menu, students will find several gluten free options including a newly sourced gluten-free V-H soy sauce.
  • Smoothies: An ever-expanding Smoothie program continues to be offered both as an interactive bar and in the Grab-and-Go "Lifestyles" fridges.

And ... a continued commitment to offer fresh, wholesome, varied and affordable selections throughout the year to help you "Chews" wisely!
