Overnight Accommodation

Campus accommodation is available to all delegates attending the Statistical Society of Canada, Annual Meeting in Elgin Hall at The University of Western Ontario. Accommodation is available for the nights of May 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30, 2006. Last date to register for campus accommodation is Monday, May 15, 2006. Check-in is after 3:00 p.m. on your day of arrival and check-out is before 12:00 noon. The Front Desk of Elgin Hall is open on a 24-hour basis. Elgin Hall offers semi-private, suite style accommodation and is conveniently located on University Drive, inside the Richmond Street gates. This facility is situated close to all the meetings and activities.

Elgin Hall is fully accessible by elevators to all floors and is air-conditioned for your comfort. Guests will be accommodated in fully furnished rooms, complete with bed linen, towels, soap and drinking glass. It is recommended that you bring your house coat and alarm clock. Each suite in Elgin Hall has four single bedrooms and two bathrooms and will be designated male, female or co-ed. Should you wish to share, please indicate roommates when you register on line. In the building, there is a well-equipped physical recreation room provided for weight and cardiovascular training, Vending machines for snacks and beverages are also located in the building. Pre-paid, card-operated laundry facilities are on each floor. According to University policy, smoking is not permitted in any campus buildings, including Elgin Hall. Please remember to return your keys to the Front Desk at the time of check out.

Elgin Hall has 24-hour customer service at the Front Desk and guests will be accommodated in fully furnished rooms, complete with bed linen, towels, soap and drinking glass. It is recommended that you bring your alarm clock. Towel service is available at the Front Desk (clean for dirty). Each unit in Elgin Hall will be designated male, female or co-ed. According to University policy, smoking is not permitted in any campus buildings, including Elgin Hall. There are telephones in each unit, (local calls are complimentary and long distance by toll-free calling card). Vending machines for snacks and beverages are located in the building. Coin-operated laundry facilities are on each floor.

To make Changes or to Cancel Your Accommodation Registration

To make changes to a standing conference registration, please email conference.services@uwo.ca. Cancellation of your reservation (or any part thereof) must be sent to our office by email in advance. You may cancel or change your reservation up to two weeks prior to the conference without penalty. Cancellations or changes received within two weeks of the conference will be subject to a 50% cancellation/change fee. Credits will not be issued for any un-used portion of your reservation. No Shows will forfeit full payment.

Campus Parking

Complimentary parking is available to delegates attending the conference in the lot located behind Elgin Hall. Additional paid visitor parking is also available on campus. Campus Recreation

The University Community Centre features an L-shaped, 25-meter indoor pool with diving well for fitness and recreational swimming. Aquatic fitness classes are scheduled at various times throughout the day. The Centre also has as a fully-equipped fitness room and an aerobics studio. Locker and towel service is available at the UCC facilities. Passes are sold on a weekly and day basis for a nominal fee. Squash, racquetball and tennis courts are also available on campus for the delegate's use. One can take advantage of the many scenic trails along the Thames River perfect for jogging, roller-blading or simply a leisurely stroll. Golf courses are located just minutes from campus.

The University Community Centre

Located in the University Community Centre is the Book Store (with a full line of UWO souvenir merchandise), postal outlet, computer store, hair salon, variety store, copy services, travel agency, film processing depot and a wide variety of brand name food outlets in Centre Spot.

Medical Facilities

Full medical services are available at University Hospital, located on the campus of UWO. The main number is (519) 685-8500 and (519) 663-3197 for the Emergency Department.

Telephone Service

An automated telephone system is provided in the common area in each unit in Elgin Hall. The telephone number for the automated telephone system is (519) 850-2411 plus the 5-digit extension number on the phone in your room. Each phone is equipped with local service and a pre-paid, toll-free calling card (such as 1-800 or 1-888) is required for long distance calls.

Message and Mail Service

Messages for registered guests in Elgin Hall are posted in the Lobby of the residence. The number for the Front Desk is (519) 661-4268.

High Speed Internet Service

With advance notice, Conference Services is able to provide you with access to the internet while in residence. There is a one time charge of $20.00 plus GST for this service. Please contact Conference Services directly for further information at conference.services@uwo.ca.

London Activities

London has much to offer the visitor, from festivals and events, to historical landmarks, attractions for all ages and interests, scenic parks, culture, heritage and restaurants to suite all culinary tastes. Air Transportation

Airport Transfers - London

Checker Limousine and Airport Service is "London's alternative to taxis". Professional, well-dressed drivers and comfortable luxury sedans provide that extra touch of class at rates very comparable to traditional taxi service. Checker Limousine operates 24 hours a day and accepts all major credit cards. Checker cars are available at the Limousine Stand located at the north end of the Terminal Building. Airport Transfers - Toronto

Should travel arrangements bring delegates into either the Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, transportation is available from the Airport to London by Robert Q Airbus Inc. This van service departs Toronto many times a day. Their customer service desks are located in the arrivals area of each terminal. Advance reservations for this service must be made at least four days prior to departure to guarantee a seat. All reservations can be booked directly with Robert Q in London. Their office is open 24 hours a day to take calls. Payment can be made in advance or when they arrive at Toronto International Airport. Car Rentals

Major car rental companies are located at the London Airport and the London Transit system services many locations on campus. Car rentals are available through Avis (1 800 879-2847), Budget (1 519 433-1701), Thrifty (1 800 367-2277) and National (1 800 227-7368).
